Artificial intelligence (AI) represents the latest in a long line of innovations that have prompted calls to recalibrate copyright law. As legislators once again debate whether copyright should be adjusted or curtailed to facilitate technological development, it is worth recalling that copyright has historically proven both resilient and adaptive. From the phonogram to broadcasting, and the internet to peer-to-peer networks, copyright has provided a framework within which creative and technology industries have generally been able to develop mutually beneficial relationships.
