ABSTRACT
The paper assigns a date of action to The Adventure of the Priory School, discusses the rules relating to titles of nobility current at that date and explains how entails both worked and could be defeated at that date. The paper also explains the improbabilities, as a plot device, of the villain’s plan in the story to defeat an entail.
