ABSTRACT
The intellectual property (IP) legal scholarship is notoriously permeated by the evolving human and societal settings in which the discipline applies. The momentum gathered around the notion of sustainability in international, regional, and national policymaking is important part of today’s context and already significantly affecting the IP legal doctrine. The chapter aims to capture a first broad-brush picture of how IP and sustainability are being understood, studied, and interpreted alongside each other. Through a mapping of selected relevant literature, the analysis identifies patterns of recurring terminology and themes, which are shaping the legal discourse and might serve as key enablers in the ongoing evolution of IP legal theory and practice.
