On 9 April 2024, the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (the Court) delivered its much-anticipated judgment in Verein KlimaSeniorinnen Schweiz and Others v Switzerland. The case, brought by a Swiss association of elderly women and four individual applicants, alleged that Switzerland’s inadequate action on climate change violated their rights under the European Convention on Human Rights (the ECHR).
