Matthew McGhee, ‘Beware the automatic signature: a proposal to re-affirm formalities requirements’

ABSTRACT
This article explores whether an automatically-applied email signature is sufficient to meet formalities requirements. It is proposed that, for a document to be ‘signed’, a mark should be applied by the document’s author (not purely automatically) such as would convey to a reasonable recipient that the author intended to authenticate the document.
