ABSTRACT
A contemporaneous reviewer (I suspect it to have been James Fitzjames Stephen) criticised Wilkie Collins’s treatment of the legal subject of ‘life estates’ in The Woman In White. Collins rejected the criticism. In this paper, I adjudicate on the dispute. Collins loses.
