ABSTRACT
Article 1 of the First Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights (FP ECHR) ensures the right to the peaceful enjoyment of possessions, which has been the focus of considerable litigation. This paper intends to address the deficiency in a detailed analysis of Article 1 FP ECHR cases by employing data science methods, specifically topic modelling and network analysis. The objective is to identify significant themes within the corpus of judgments and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about property rights. By adopting a non-doctrinal approach and introducing a distinctive manually annotated dataset, this paper aims to illustrate the efficacy of integrating topic modelling with network analysis to uncover meaningful subsets of case law and landmark decisions in the areas of property, housing, and eviction.
