Benjamin Suslavich, ‘Nonconsensual Deepfakes: A “Deep Problem” for Victims’

ABSTRACT
The use of Artificial Intelligence to create false speech has been a looming problem for victims who are the nonconsensual subjects of this false speech. Deepfakes utilize Artificial Intelligence to generate life-like videos of individuals with only a single image of the subject’s face. However, when Deepfake technology is used maliciously, such as in the generation of nonconsensual pornographic deepfake videos, there is little recourse for victims. This Article calls for regulators to recognize the imminent threat deepfakes are to both public figures and individuals who are not in the public light and urges government to find a way for individuals to reclaim their own identities and likeness on the internet.
