This encyclopaedia entry on data protection/ data privacy provides an overview of the concept of data protection, its main actors and principles. It discusses the legal recognition of data protection by taking a look at relevant international legal frameworks. It explores the challenges that data protection faces and highlights current and future trends of this area of law.
